Have you been binging on Luke Cage, Netflix's newest Marvel superhero series? If so, you might have noticed, like us, that it is *lousy* with literary and hip-hop references. (Check out Luke reading one of Walter Mosley's Detective Easy Rawlins novels below.) Tara Betts, a contributor at the website Black Nerd Problems, also took notice and created "The Luke Cage Syllabus: A Breakdown of All the Black Literature Featured in Netflix's Luke Cage." Betts writes "Books are such a significant part of the dialogue in key scenes, and how often does any show feature a Black man with an affinity for books — as any character, much less the lead?"
